The PxtKX in the terminal box with high protection class is a short-term UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for electric drives. The terminal box enables us to achieve a protection class of IP 66.

The PxtKX is connected to the positive and negative poles of the DC link circuit, and the system is ready to operate without any further settings or commissioning efforts. The maximum operating or DC link voltage may reach 848 volts DC according to UL standards or 980 volts DC according to IEC standards. Only a small LED indicator on the front of the device shows the status of the device. Nothing more is required.
The rare instances of use, the limited number of cycles over time and thus the low power loss make it possible to install the device with a storage volume of two or four kilojoules in a compact terminal box with a high IP66 protection rating.
If the PxtKX device is ready for use shortly after the drive is switched on, the LED lights up green. This means that the PxtKX has started its systems and gently charged the batteries with a power of one kilowatt. The relatively low charging power is selected so as not to overload the charging circuit of the drive system. The system readiness of the PxtKX can also be reported to the drive or a higher-level control system via a digital interface. Further communication is possible via a total of two digital inputs and outputs. For more advanced communication requirements, which are unlikely to be necessary with the simple PxtKX device, Koch offers an optional communication card as an additional option.
The PxtKX device is KOCH’s newly developed short-term UPS (uninterruptible power supply). The DC power source is designed for occasional use in the event of voltage dips and power failures. Connected directly to the DC link of the frequency converter or servo controller, the device responds immediately and without delay to a voltage drop, ensuring that the drive can continue to operate without interruption. With optimized power electronics and proven storage capacitors, the PxtKX offers an economically attractive solution for the increasingly frequent “worst-case scenario” of weak power grids.
